TINTAGEL CASTLE is steeped in the legend of King Arthur, but the truth is probably a bit more down to earth. Cornwall is an area rich in minerals and these have been a source of trade since the Bronze Age. The area was worth defending and a castle was built there on the rocky headland which is now an island due to sea erosion. Nowadays all that remains is a pile of rubble but there is some evidence of the former glory in the stones that remain.
