THE CHEESEWRING & THE HURLERS
Strange names I am sure to most of you. In fact, they are stone formations by the village called MINIONS (not named after the animated film) inCornwall, near Liskeard. The Cheesewring is a pillar of gannet stones left after weathering by the Bodin Moor climate. It stands above a quarry which supplied stones for the facing of Tower Bridge, London. It's name ones from its resemblance to a form of cloth press used to make cheese.
The Hurlers are three sets of standing stone circles (on a much smaller scale than Stonehenge). The name "Hurlers" derives from a legend, in which men were playing the Gaelic/Cornish game of Hurling on a Sundayand were magically transformed into stones as punishment. The nearby "Pipers" are supposed to be the figures of two men who played tunes on a Sunday and suffered the same fate So I hope you learn to observe proprietary on Sundays!
