So when taking photos, like everything else, the end result depends upon the time and effort you put into the process. Be patient, and if you still can't get the shot you want, walk away and try elsewhere.
Several people ask me how I take some nice photographs. It isn't luck and although a certain amount of it is luck, most of it is in approach. When I approach a scene, my first decision isn't to instantly photograph it, but rather to discover what is the main point of interest. It could be an object, a colour or a pattern. Next I decide upon what I want to include and, more importantly, what I want to exclude. Then I decide upon the lens, the composition, the framing and finally the point of focus. When I take the shot, I check the exposure is correct and the focus is good. Next, I decide on whether it could be improved or what composition I might want next. I move position frequently, and check views with the camera to my eye. I also look for high and low viewpoints. For a simple shot of a landscape I could take anything between a couple of minutes and an hour to take some photos. Only a few will be good enough to publish, maybe none.
