Photography isn't like a painting. The camera records what is in the scene rather than selectively putting in the elements the artist wants you to see. However, editing a photo will provide a better result than simply shooting a scene and leaving it like that. The following sequence illustrates the point. PHOTO 1 - Straight scene as recorded by the camera (Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia) PROBLEM - Too many wires and telegraph poles that detract from the scene. SOLUTION - Crop the image to remove the unsightly poles on either side. RESULT - Better but there are still heavy wires in the sky area.
SOLUTION - Use Clone Stamp or Brush in Photoshop to remove wires. RESULT - Much better (Compare with the original) Well it has been about three weeks since I was last here and have had a terrific time in Canada and the USA. The weather wasn't that kind to us thanks to the side effects of Hurricane Michael. With over 1000 photos to process it will take some time before I can begin to upload them but hope to begin maybe nest week.
In the meantime here is one that captures the essence of what I saw... It is time again for another trip abroad. This time I am off to Canada and USA, hopefully to see the fall/autumn colours. The trip is a mix of big cities and small communities, starting in Montreal and ending up in New York. Lots of interesting side excursions planned, so stay tuned and I will start posting in about 3 or 4 weeks ! Bye for now ! In the meantime feel free to browse through my back catalogue...
I have just bought a new zoom lens and decided to try it out. The results are really sharp as you can see below.
I took it to our local zoo and you can see the results in the slideshow under DARTMOOR ZOO. I've been off travelling again recently and you can find the new photos on the side via the Main Page. We are home again for a month then off to Canada and the USA for a couple of weeks on a cruise. In the meantime, I will post any local photos I take. Enjoy !
At last after several travels and much editing, I am finally up to date as you can see from the recent new posts. I have a couple more small trips planned before a major trip at the end of September. I hope you enjoy the latest offerings!
I am a member of a couple of photography forums and one common theme is technology - e.g. what camera or what lens is best for me? The simple answer is any decent make of camera/lens is capable of producing a good image. In photography the issue is seldom the technology but the ability of the photographer. Photography is all about the image - if you as a photographer cannot visualise the final image then you are facing an uphill battle. An photograph communicates the idea that the photographer had in their mind when they took or edited the image.
A photograph is a moment caught in time but it is not the same as a scene viewed by the eye, instead it is a portion of a scene included within a frame. For example, in a street scene the image may be of a red telephone box rather than the complete street. So a particular element of the overall scene has been deliberately included within the frame. This is where the skill of the photographer takes place, to decide what to include and (more importantly) what to exclude from the frame. Linked to this is the decision of where the focal point of the photograph should be. For example in a large group of similarly dressed people the focal point is often upon the person who stands out because of some slight difference, of hairstyle or hat, etc. So the next time you take a photograph pause before pressing the shutter button and think what you want to show/tell the viewer about the scence in front of you. What draws your eye to the scene and is the important element within it. The more you do this, the better your photography will become. Hi folks. Unfortunately I have been having technical issues with my photo editor (Photoshop) on my laptop where it has suddenly decided that I have run out of RAM. So I have to import my photos to my old desktop computer and start again.
In the meantime I am off to Chester and the North East of England for a week. So in a week or so I will post some more Japanese trip photos (I hope!) There is plenty here on the site to keep you occupied while I am away ! See you soon ! Ray Hi Folks ! Back from Japan and have posted the first of about 14 slideshows. The first one is Tokyo. ENJOY !
