BACK LIGHT occurs when you are pointing the camera in the direction of the sun. This lighting condition tends to place subjects in silhouette but the edges catch the sunlight. This is ideal for showing fur or feathers or when shooting grass seed heads. However, shooting into the sub can create lens flare when the light is internally reflected within the lens. To relieve this you can use the shadow of your hand or a hat/cap on the front element of the lens. Another technique is to position yourself so that the sun is hidden behind an object such as a tree or rock.
